The Value of Rios Lab
The RIOS Lab is the first Social Work research lab associated with the Masters of Social Work program at Seton Hall University. This lab was created by Dr. Juan A. Rios, Jr. who identifies himself as a practitioner scholar to bring community engaged scholarship, interdisciplinary approaches to investigate the multidimensions of social justice. The RIOS lab has active research projects including but not limited to: Cultural and Social Capital and its impact on Self Efficacy, Social Justice in Action qualitative evaluation, The Use of Virtual Reality to Teach social Justice, and The Effectiveness of mindfulness intervention among Latinx children.
Core Principles
Our mission is to create a space where students, community practitioners, and scholars can engage in empirical research to eliminate social inequities, address ethical implications of emerging technology and cultivate self reflexive multidisciplinary projects that support social justice for all.

RIOS Lab is committed to providing community wide change through innovative research. While engaging within the community we maintain a self aware perspective to provide objective solutions.
Liberation Health Framework
RIOS Lab uses the liberation health model to provide a holistic viewpoint to the experiences that our communities encounter. Our objective is to assess the internal and external oppressive factors that affects marginalized communities and advocate for social change.
Social Justice
RIOS Lab is on a mission to address the inequities within our society. We believe that everyone deserves equal access to opportunities despite race, gender, or status.
